I'd like to thank the PKA and all the members for putting on a great show. There was a tremendous turn out over the three days and many great knife makers in attendance. I received a warm welcome and was honored to win some awards.
I entered a custom brass hatchet to be judged in the contest and was fortunate to win the PKA 18th Annual Denver Custom Knife Show - Best Hand Forged Primitive Cutlery award, August 2010. All the award winners were then judged for the Best of Show award... and the hatchet came out the winner! It was an exciting day for me and one I'll never forget. Thanks again. Don

Big Sky Conference - hosted by Josh Smith of Josh Smith Knives

Saturday and Sunday was filled with demonstrations from top makers. Bill Burke led off with a great blade forging demo. That was followed up by Damascus demos from Rick Dunkerley. Jurgen Steinau gave some wonderful classes on design and his construction techniques. Tim Hancock worked like crazy as usual showing all aspects of knife making from basic construction to advanced handle and sheaths. John Young gave a wonderful hollow grinding and polishing demo. The last day was finished up with a couple great slip joint classes from Bill Ruple.

Fourth Annual Big Sky Country Conference

Bud , Dave, and I were all in attendance for the Fourth Annual Big Sky Country Conference. The event was hosted by Josh Smith in conjuction with the American Bladesmith Society. There were some great teachers and we had the opportunity to learn the most current techniques in knife making. Owen Wood taught us how to create the herringbone damascus pattern. Don Fogg demonstrated these knife making steps: forging a knife blade, grinding and hardening, and heat treating. Then, Harvey Dean taught a class on slip joint folders. These folks are definitely some of the best in the business. We look forward to next years event.
